Fear not. Regret not.

I was reading from the book of John this morning and in chapter 19:38-42 , I discovered the two most regretful characters in the bible.

Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

These men actually did a good thing. They were the ones who took care of the burial arrangements of Jesus. Joseph of Arimathea even had the boldness to ask Pilate for Jesus’ remains. Nicodemus, who was a ruling member of the Pharisees and a member of the Sanhedrin, put his career on the line to give Jesus a proper Jewish burial.

Nicodemus filled with regret (Look at his face).

But here’s the problem…Jesus ,at this point, was already gone. Their good works were too late.

Joseph of Arimathea secretly followed Jesus (How lame is that!?!). Nicodemus visited Jesus at night because if the Jesus-haters club that he lead found out that Jesus had a strong effect on him, it would be F.O. (friendship over) for him and his funny hat pals.

The burial treatment for their King was a strong indication of the regret they had for not standing up for Jesus when He was still alive, when it counted.

Friends, fear will lead to regret. We only have one life to live. Let’s be sure to follow Jesus and have fellowship with Him when it counts. Let us not wait for death bed moments. Jesus is inviting you to have a chance to experience the best life you could ever have and that is…

RIGHT NOW!
