Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ephesians 5:25-28 NIV)
The role given to us may seem easy…”Love my wife…sure! I’ll be on my way to get her those chocolates she’s been asking me to give her just about now. I’m on it! Scored some bible points right there”
Hold on Mister, it really isn’t that easy. The verse above says to love your wife as Christ loved the church. That’s the standard!
Now from easy, it seems impossible. Many things in the bible may seem impossible for us alone, but this becomes possible as you first understand how Christ loved us. What happened on the cross? What did it do for me?
Husbands, this blog wouldn’t be the venue to figure that out. The place to find the answers to those questions on the cross is in the Word of God.
Verse 28 of Ephesians 5 says that in the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies… If you want to start growing in your love for your wife (and for anyone), grow in your revelation of what Jesus has done for you.
So again, I ask you, “What happened on the cross? What did it do for you?”
